Richard is known for his ability to pose challenging questions to support learning. He is a specialist in action learning based organisation development and the creator of the higher education accredited Action Learning Question methodology
Following an HR/L&D career in the engineering and broadcasting industry Richard has, for over 20 years, consulted with government and business sector organisations and supported business driven accredited programmes to masters and doctoral level.
Richard’s early career was in management development with GEC Marconi Avionics where he led management development and engineering and commercial education programmes and then with BSkyB as head of Learning and Development as the satellite television market was being created in the UK.
He has since consulted with international commercial business sectors and public service and government organisations supporting organisation development and providing access to higher education qualifications using his Action Learning Question methodology. This forms the basis of work in the recent year with Mayvin where he manages the accreditation and assessment of the Civil Service Organisation Design & Development Practitioner programme.
Richard has published several award winning articles based on his research in the field of action learning and he completed a professional doctorate under the supervision of Prof. Alan Mumford focused on the social psychology of learning relationships (coaching and mentoring). In addition to his consultancy and training roles Richard is often involved in qualitative research projects and impact assessments relating to organisation development and change initiatives.
