Together with the Mayvin Community, we've been exploring how an artful approach can create the spaces of reflection needed for more open, honest conversations about change in organisations.

The focus of our most recent event was Artful Approaches to Organisational Change where we explored how an artful approach can create the spaces of reflection needed for more open, honest conversations about change in organisations. This event brought together two strands of our research into doing Organisation Development and Design for real in organisations: practice-based learning and the real language of organisations.

We examined questions such as:

  • How can we create spaces of reflection that get us closer to the grain of the work?
  • How can an artful approach help people to share their experiences of organisational change in a way that is accessible to others?
  • How can we embrace complex organisational problems in an artful way?
To facilitate the conversation, Mayvin was joined by Sophie Shaw, arts interpretation and narrative development specialist, and Sandi Drewett, Director of Workforce and Organisational Development at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We built on the ideas they introduced at our 2018 OD & D for Real event. In this previous event, we explored what two different worlds, sign language and art interpretation, could teach us about how to talk the real language of organisations.
