BSc (Hons), MSc
Tony brings a strategic perspective, creating space for clients to understand their contexts and their ways of working in new ways. Clients value his calm, reflective and, on occasion, challenging presence.
With an inquiring mind and ability to see patterns in complex situations, Tony Nicholls brings insight, commercial experience and practical solutions.
Starting his career as an Design Engineer in Aerospace, Tony soon realised that people, not planes, were his passion. Moving to a customer-focused role within Financial Services, Tony built a successful practice servicing private and small business clients. It was during this period that he benefited from some of the best personal, leadership and business development practices of the time. This ignited his passion for people and Organisation Development and there followed a series of senior corporate roles in Learning and Development, Strategic Human Resources and Organisation Development.
Following the completion of an MSc in People and Organisation Development, Tony focused on developing his practice through consulting and interim roles. During this time he supported small and large organisations in a variety of sectors. Projects included shaping strategy, changing culture, developing leaders and managers, and facilitating team effectiveness.
Tony has worked with organisations such as Zurich, Capital One, The Co-operative, Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, Direct Line Group, numerous small-to-medium manager-owned businesses and also some of the UK’s largest inner-city primary schools.
Underpinning Tony’s approach is a focus on exploring context, surfacing perceived realties and inviting alternative ways to articulate individual needs and organisation goals. Central to his practice is the development of more grounded, resilient individuals and more collaborative, innovative organisations.
Tony regularly blogs about his experiences and thinking in Organisation Development and has written articles for HR publications and for the business pages of The Times, The Telegraph and The Guardian.
Tony lives in Wilmslow, Cheshire with his wife and two Border Terriers, Elsie and Maud.
