BRIEF

The Civil Service’s expert Organisation Development and Design Service launched an OD Capability Building programme to build the skills and awareness of the HR community across government.

The requirement was to design and run two versions of the programme:

A ‘Core Practice’ Programme for Senior OD and HR practitioners
A programme for HR Fast Stream participants to supplement their learning with practical OD tools

SOLUTION

We began with a familiarisation and inquiry process to understand the needs of potential programme participants, stakeholders and sponsors.

We created bespoke materials and designed the programme to combine training and Organisation Development with an opportunity for participants to bring a real OD issue they are facing and work on it together with colleagues.

This ‘OD Question’ method, based on the principles of Action Learning, is accredited to post-graduate level.

OUTCOME

The programme was instantly successful and is regarded widely as one of the best development opportunities available to Civil Servants in HR. A more advanced OD programme has now been commissioned and successfully piloted.

Participants have found themselves taking a more politically astute, systemic and relationship-focused approach. The project write-ups tell stories of people making a bigger difference by bringing an OD mindset and OD know-how to their work.
